This blog shall, quite rightly, be about technology – predominantly the “Progressive Technologies” that Lato Networks deliver, but, maybe sometimes I’ll comment on broader happenings and what impact they may have on our industry and customers.

Over the next few weeks, I’ll give you my take on our stable of solutions, which varies on the general marketing information you would find on a data sheet or in the solutions overview section of a vendor’s website.

Firstly, I wanted to crystallise for you what I mean when I talk about “Progressive Technologies”. Each technology area in which Lato operates is mature; Security, Storage, virtualization and WAN Optimisation are each multibillion dollar industries – every organisation requires the first two, and the latter have been adopted by most information centric organisations looking to reduce IT costs in the last 5 years.

Progressive Technologies take an established and mature technology, and re-engineer it to increase it’s value to customers in orders of magnitude.

The drive to reassess and engineer systems from the ground up is twofold. Firstly, information’s value to an organisation is growing every day. When once  IT was considered a necessary evil, it has emerged as an absolutely critical function, one that can decide a corporations competitiveness within its marketplace.

Secondly, as I mention above, the technologies have been around for many years, they are mature. With daily announcements of faster processors and smarter software, we have an ever-growing kit bag of tools with which to build tomorrow’s infrastructure. In addition, the massive emergence and adoption of virtualization is causing us to question every area of IT to find simarlily obvious consolidation and savings in both terms of hardware and resources. If there were ever a time to take a blank piece of paper and some great software guys and say “let’s start over”, it is now.

Lato Networks review advancements in each of the technologies areas we work in from a position of impartiality, evaluating whether or not the vendors claims of “game change” and “revolution” are true, or just marketing spin.
If the technology does deliver true progression, we adopt it into the portfolio. When an alternate vendors solution supersedes one in our portfolio, the new solution replaces the old – as indeed it should.

Hopefully that should clarify what I mean about Progressive Technologies – a product within an established technology area that delivers a transformation, or big bang, within it’s marketplace.

As I mention above, I’ll take you on a tour of the portfolio in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.

Today we have started our first Blog. Our blog will hopefully provide some useful insight to the latest progressive technologies within the datacentre space, for those looking to purchase the latest technologies that can increase efficiency and save on cost, or for who just want to improve their knowledge on a specific area.
